One day on Robinson Crusoe Island

Today I got up at 8 o’clock. When I had finished my breakfast I decided to go to the reception and reconfirm my next accomodation (Aquarius on the beach). Everything was perfect and I went to the beach. Smiley mit herausgestreckter Zunge On the beach I had a fabulous idea. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

DSCF5244DSCF5243

I started collecting sticks on the beach. I built a square out of big ones and put one smaller stick in each corner. Then I started to fix the sticks to eachother. I did that with leaves of the coconut trees, knotted them and put on top of the sticks a large bamboo stick. For stabilization I used two other small sticks and leaned them against the bamboo stick so that I had an angled roof. Smiley I put more coconut leaves/sticks on it so that they covered the back and the sides of my small house. After that I formed my own symbol out of a huge stick, a leave from another plant and a coconut. Smiley

I put it in front of my house. During my construction

I realized that it wasn’t so easy for me to get all the material together without a knife or a sharp stone. In the end I was proud that I built up my own small house, and I bet, I could survive/live in it for more than one night.  Smiley It is definitely not as stable or rainproofed as Robinson Crusoe’s, but I really felt a bit like him building it. After having had lunch and some cava with my new Australian friends, I went for a walk around the island and explored it on my own. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

It was a really nice scenery around me and relaxing in the hammocks during my Fijitime was the best part of it. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

Fejeeexperience Day 4:Trip to Rakiraki Town, to the mudpools and boat ride to Robinson Crusoe Island

After having stayed the night in a three-bed-room all by myself,  we started at 9:30 am. Our first destination was Rakiraki town (it’s the city with the biggest ammount of Indians living on the Fijis). We stopped there for about 20 minutes and I took my chance and went shopping. Smiley mit herausgestreckter Zunge I bought two really nice shirts for a good price and a new book ( Hemingway- The old man and the sea) Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund Then we drove to the hotel where we had lunch. I took a caesar salad which tasted just amazing.Smiley mit herausgestreckter Zunge

At 2 o’clock we arrived at the mudpools. First of all we had to change our clothes. We started by rubbing mud at each other, it was very funny and in the end everybody was totally covered with mud. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

DSCF5194DSCF5192DSCF5193

Then we went into the mud”pool” I would call it rather a mudlake. Smiley There we washed the mud from our bodies but not from our faces. After 10 minutes we went into another pool, which was called the “hotpool”. It wasn’t as hot as the hot water beach or the Polynesian Spa in New Zealand, but it was a nice temperature. There we washed our faces and washed off all the mud that was still left on our bodies. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

The mud is really healthy for your skin and shall make it softer. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

I left the group at 15:00 because I had to catch my bus to the ferry terminal to visit Robinson Crusoe Island. I got there right in Fijitime and enjoyed a really beautiful boat ride on the river. I was the only passenger on the boat, so I had good conversation with the boatswain and some musicians gave me a wonderful welcome on the Island.

It was just amazing. After I checked-in I enjoyed a perfect dinner and another Cava ceremony.Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund I was really exhausted from the day and the Cava so I went to bed pretty soon. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

3. day–Sightseeing in Suva, visiting a village and bamboo rafting

After one night in a treehouse  we started at 8:30 am and after breakfast drove to our first destination: Suva, the capital of Fiji.

DSCF5078  DSCF5083  DSCF5092DSCF5097

Our tourguide showed us the most important buildings and told us many stories about the history of Fiji. It was very interesting and I learnt a lot. Smiley mit herausgestreckter Zunge

DSCF5112DSCF5111DSCF5110

Our next stop was at a village an one- hour- drive from Suva. Because the other guy of our group had left, I was the only guy left in our group, and so I became the chief of the group. In Fijian villages each group of visitors has to appoint one member as a chief, who has to  represent the group, it’s supposed to be a male.

For our welcome we were introduced into a traditional Cava Ceremony and I was the first, who had to take the bowl and drink the traditional drink like a shot.

DSCF5124

Before I did that, I had to clap in my hands to signalize, that I was ready for the drink. Then a guy from the village came to me with a bowl in his hand.  I took it,  had the drink  and then I had to say “vinaka” , thank you. It tasted like the roots of the cava smell and I liked it. shaking hands with the chief

For lunch the citizens of the village had prepared a huge buffet for us which was really tasty. I started to eat and sat next to the chief of the village all the time. Smiley mit geöffnetem MundDSCF5130It was an old, wise and intelligent man, who showed me a lot. In the beginning I was a bit nervous, because I didn’t know, what Cava will taste like and so I struggled with some Fijian words.

After lunch I bought some braceletts in the village ( the money will be taken to build up schools, buy stationery and help the cititzens). Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund Then we went for the traditional bamboo-rafting. It was really funny in my position as a chief, because I could do whatever I liked. So I did a handstand, jumped a forward somersault from the bamboo float and swam in the river. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

DSCF5151DSCF5146DSCF5149

After that I had some more Cava and slowly realized what’s the effect of Cava. It’s like a strong drug which make you feel very happy. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund I said Vinaka! to all citizens of the village, and we had a nice dancing session in the end, the Fijians showed us their dancing moves and me and my group showed them ours. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund
Then we drove to our last destination “the tanoa hotel” . We were all really tired from the day. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

Feejeeexperience Day 1, shopping at a local market, visiting the village and Mango Bay

Today we started the trip with Feejeeexperience. I got picked up at 8 o’clock (Fiji Time) Smiley mit herausgestreckter Zunge. Our first stop was the central of Nadi Nan, we had to do some shopping for lunch and dinner. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund I bought some tropical fruits and enjoyed the experience of visiting a real Fijian market.

Later we drove to a Fijian village. It was really nice to see how the Fijians are living. Our guide told us a lot about the culture, the tribes and different traditions of the Fijians. During our visit in the village we weren’t aloud to wear sunglasses and had to wear a Sorong to signalize, that we are visitors and no enemies. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

DSCF4831DSCF4844DSCF4821DSCF4829DSCF4828

We stayed in the village for about 2 hours and then continued our trip to a lovely beach on the coast. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund There I went swimming, got my body tanned and enjoyed Fijitime. The water was just amazing, right colour, right temperature and right amount of salt in it.

The others were having lunch there and waited for their meals longer than an hour. Smiley mit herausgestreckter Zunge

After that we went sandboarding. Just imagine to go with a surfboard down a huge sanddune. It was a lot of fun. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

Goodbye Auckland (New Zealand), Bula Bula Fiji :D

I spent the last days in Auckland in the Verandahs Backpackers. One day I went downtown to the city centre, visited a museum and did some sightseeing in parts of Auckland like  Chinatown or the university district. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

DSCF4728DSCF4729DSCF4732DSCF4733DSCF4739 … beautiful Auckland

Another day I just stayed  in the hostel and learnt some Krishna Meditation by chanting with a woman from my hostel. It was very funny and both of us really enjoyed it. I got to know a lot of nice people in the hostel, and so, saying goodbye today, was really hard. :/ Most of the time in the hostel I spent with Julia. She’s a 23- year- old German girl from Aschaffenburg and is also on holidays. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund Another really nice guy is called Chris and he was from Italy (Rimini). I hope that I will catch up with many of these nice people again one day. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund At 10 o’clock in the morning I got my shuttle to the airport. After I had arrived at the airport I checked-in and boarded on my airplane. It was just in Fijitime (30 minutes delayed) Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund. After my arrival on the Fiji Islands in Nadi I got out and was so happy: 28°C outside. Smiley A music group played some Fijian music on the arrival and everybody seemed to be happy. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund I talked to some German girls and found out, that it seems to be quite common to make a trip around the world. Smiley mit herausgestreckter Zunge Later I got to know some English girls, who will do the same trip on Fiji as me. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund I got all my tickets from Feejeeexperience, a necklace and we boarded the bus which took us to our hostel. Smiley mit herausgestreckter Zunge

At the hostel we were welcome by really friendly „Bula Bula“ and I enjoyed a nice Fijian dinner. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

Tomorrow my trip will continue to Mango Bay. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund Let’s see what’s going on there. Smiley mit herausgestreckter Zunge

Trip to the volcanic Rangitoto Island, went up the Skytower and enjoyed a really tasty Indian meal

Today I got up at 6:30 to catch the ferry at 7:30 to the Rangitoto volcanic island. My roommate Alessandro from Italy came with me. He’s a nice guy, about 33 years old, and he is on his holidays in New Zealand. We had nice conversations on the ferry and arrived at 8 o’clock on the island. Smiley

DSCF4580DSCF4582DSCF4587

In the beginning it was a bit raining but we were prepared and enjoyed the view of the amazing rainbow. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

DSCF4589DSCF4596

Our first stop was at the Lava Caves (the caves we thought they were the lava caves Smiley mit herausgestreckter Zunge )

DSCF4607Actually it was this small hole right behind me. We went into the cave for about 20m but then realized, that we needed a torch. Neither of us had got one, so we returned after 20 minutes. Smiley mit herausgestreckter Zunge

DSCF4611DSCF4614

Then we found the right entry to the Lava Caves, and, of course,  it was much bigger.

After that we went up to the summit, and from there we enjoyed a stunning view over Auckland’s skyline and the Motutapu Island. Our next stop was in Islington Bay Wharf in the very  east of Rangitoto Island, right opposite Motutapu Island. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

DSCF4620DSCF4621

On Motutapu Island (we could cross over to the next island by walking on a small bridge), I went for a swim, we lay in the sun and ate something for lunch. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

DSCF4637DSCF4636DSCF4647DSCF4652

For our way back we took the coastal track, a track which provided stunning views of the beautiful landscape along the coast. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund We arrived in time for the ferry departure at around 3 o’clock and off we went.

DSCF4629 Smiley mit geöffnetem MundDSCF4659

Back in Auckland we decided to go up the Skytower and to visit the Skycity. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund When we had arrived there, we purchased a ticket for 18 Dollars each, and took the lift to the Main platform (186 m high). We stayed there for a while, enjoyed the view and watched all  the skyjumpers jumping down from the Skytower. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

DSCF4672DSCF4684DSCF4678

Then we went up with a second lift to the Sky Deck (220 m high, highest point you can go to without jumping.) Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund Took some photos there. It was an amazing view of Auckland from up there, you could really see every single building, the harbour, the islands around Auckland, the mountains of Auckland (Mt. Eden, One Tree Hill, Mt. Wellington etc.) and we recognized a lot of them. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

DSCF4686DSCF4696DSCF4689DSCF4684_thumb.jpg

We returned by lift and went to the Skycity (a huge casino with lots of very noble restaurants). We didn’t gamble today and returned to our hostel soon. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

There Nani already waited for us and we started to cook our dinner. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

Celebrating Easter with lovely Indians from my hostel

Today I had worked the whole day long  (10 hours) on a public holiday and I was really  exhausted when I had returned home. :/ After I had taken a shower I got to know some very nice Indian guys (7 actually) Radhar, Gogne, Vamar, Sahib, Anno, Ravi and Jamal, who are also staying at this hostel and I have learned a lot about Indian culture and tradition. They let me try  three different meals (they cooked them for me and were very happy about it). They were so friendly and happy, it was just amazing. One time two of them had an argument about a different view on women. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund One of the others intervened saying that both of them were right and he succeeded to smooth out the differences. Then they all were friends again. When I asked the troubleshooter, if they always do it like that in India, he agreed. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund That was really very impressive and amazing, an Indian way of dispute. I had a lot of fun with these guys, and they invited me to their homes, families and friends, if I will come to India one day. Smiley I think it was the best and most interesting Easter I’ve ever had: drinking Lassi (Indian yoghurt-drink, I’ve got the recipe now Smiley mit herausgestreckter Zunge), eating only with my right hand (it’s their culture to eat like that, and honestly, it made me feel happy to eat like that, you feel the food, the temperature and the structure of itSmiley mit geöffnetem Mund ) and taking crazy pictures. Smiley mit herausgestreckter Zunge

Everybody of them wanted a picture of him with me on his side so it took us a while to finish the process of photographing. Smiley mit herausgestreckter Zunge

Went to Mount Eden, prepared some pancakes and went to Sandra’s house

Today we got up at 9 o’clock at Anna’s house. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund We decided to walk up Mount Eden, which is located next to the CBD in Auckland. It was a bit of a walk up there but the view was just awesome. 😀 We had lunch up there and returned at three o’clock. No couchsurfer had replied till then, and so I decided to call the woman, who had given me a ride in Auckland last time. She said, I am welcome to stay for one night. Sandra is a 71 year old woman, who was born in New Zealand and lives in St. Heliers. I tried to get a ride from Anna’s house to town. A really friendly and nice guy picked me up, and we had a good talk. He decided to give me a lift along the Takamari Drive, which is a really beautiful road along the coastside. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

DSCF4546So I arrived at Sandra’s place around 7 o’clock and had even met another woman on the way, who was going to visit Sandra as well. So we arrived together at her really beautiful house, after having enjoyed some good conversation with Kristin. After she had left for home, Sandra and I decided to get some food in town.

So we had lovely Thai food for dinner and then I helped her to repair her computer and figured out some other things for her. She was really happy that I could help her with different things. Smiley I watched some movies from her big TV. Smiley  Tomorrow I will go to Auckland and will apply at Tradestaff for another job. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

Milking in the morning, hot water beach and continued to Auckland

This morning we got up at 4:30 am to help the son of Katrin milking the cows. So we started milking them and did it for nearly 3 hours. After half an hour I have learnt the proper technique to cup the teats of the cow. First of all you have to feel where the teats are with the right hand, in your left hand you hold the milking-machine. Then you have to cup every teat of the cow. Sometimes they just have three teats or they have a mark on their legs, so that you know you have to be very careful to cup the right teats.

P1140206P1140209P1140204

It was a really exciting and useful experience and in the end we had milked 505 cows altogether. After that we went back into the house and enjoyed an amazingly fresh and natural breakfast with the family. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

Then we continued our trip, drove to the nearest hot water beach and spent a nice time over there. Smiley

Today was the last day of our roadtrip and we came back to Auckland. Smiley

For the night we could stay at a friend’s of Till. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund It was her birthday and we had a lovely time. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund
